Manhattan Beach Cars & Coffee January Newsletter
State of the Shift at MB C&C
Hello everyone, and welcome to the first edition of the State of the Shift, Manhattan Beach Cars & Coffee's official bi-monthly newsletter. My name is Connor Wohl, and I'm the president and co-founder of MB C & C. I've been working on a newsletter for the event for a while now and am excited to finally publish it! The goal is to serve as an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at everything MB C & C: the latest updates, next month's collaborations, spotlighted brands, and two standout "Best in Show" vehicles that stole the crowd.
As we look back on 2024, I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to everyone who made it such a remarkable year. From pre-war classics to modern BMWs, the diversity of cars and the passion of this community never fail to impress. Each event has been a celebration of our shared love for automotive culture, and I'm constantly inspired by what rolls into the lot.
Reflections: Supporting Our LA Community
As we begin this new year, it's impossible to ignore the heartbreak we are facing as a community. The devastating fires across Los Angeles County—impacting areas like the Palisades, Malibu, Pasadena, and Altadena—have left countless families and neighborhoods reeling. As an LA native with over 20 years of deep roots here, it's painful to witness the loss and devastation so many loved ones, friends, and colleagues are enduring.
To all those affected, we are here to help. MB C&C has strong connections within the car and real estate communities, and we're offering free assistance to anyone in need. Whether it's connecting you with trusted detailers, restoration shops, mechanics, storage facilities, or insurance experts, our goal is to be a resource during this difficult time. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you or someone you know could benefit from our assistance.
Looking Ahead: 2025 and Beyond
With 2024 behind us, we're turning our focus to what's ahead in 2025. Our first event of the year is confirmed for Saturday, January 25th, and we're excited to kick off another incredible year together. Behind the scenes, our team has been hard at work planning new collaborations, spotlighting exciting brands, and bringing fresh ideas to the table.
Thank you for being part of the MB C&C family and for helping us grow into the South Bay's premier car enthusiast community. Together, we can make 2025 our best year yet.
MB Motoring Market Watch: 2020 McLaren 620R
The McLaren 620R stands out as a rare and highly specialized offering, derived from McLaren's GT4 racing platform and engineered for street-legal performance. Limited to just 250 units globally (though exact production figures are debated), this 2020 model integrates a striking array of components inspired by the McLaren Senna, including advanced aerodynamics, carbon-ceramic brakes, and aggressive bodywork. The minimalist interior, characterized by exposed carbon fiber, Alcantara, and racing-style door straps, underscores the car's singular focus on delivering a raw, immersive driving experience. Designed to appeal to purist enthusiasts, the 620R provides an exhilarating blend of performance and exclusivity, though its appeal remains somewhat niche within the broader supercar market.
The resale landscape for the McLaren 620R reflects its unique positioning. Initially priced near $320,000, current market activity indicates significant variability, with dealer listings ranging from $260,000 to $300,000 depending on mileage, condition, and specification. Despite its limited production, the 620R has not achieved the same rapid turnover seen with some of McLaren's other models. Listings typically remain on the market for 80 to 150 days, with pricing often requiring adjustments to align with demand. Buyers seeking value can find well-maintained examples with under 3,000 miles in the $230,000 range, while wholesale figures generally fall between $200,000 and $215,000. This highlights the importance of realistic pricing strategies for both buyers and sellers to navigate the relatively small buyer pool & inventory effectively.
From a performance perspective, the 620R offers an unrivaled experience for those who value precision, lightness, and the thrill of a twin-turbocharged V8 paired with race-inspired features. While I've traditionally gravitated toward the character of naturally aspirated engines like Ferrari's V12s or the flair of Lamborghini's designs, the 620R has redefined my perspective on McLaren as a brand. It embodies a harmonious balance between track-ready performance and road-going usability, albeit more suited to weekend drives or canyon runs than daily use. While its limited-production status and niche market position may require careful consideration, the 620R presents a compelling opportunity for discerning buyers seeking a truly distinctive addition to their collection.
